It was great to get to chat with everyone last night at Back to School Night! Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions that come up as you "digest" all of the information we went over! I am looking foward to sharing a fabulous year of growth and learning with your families.
I have been so fortunate to be a part of your child’s educational journey and am feeling sad to only have 2 short months left : ( They have grown SO much and have really blossomed into great little thinkers. We did some writing last week about designing a dream teacher… I was expecting responses like gives us candy, recess all day, cancels school, no homework. I was amazed with the actual responses I received “teaches us math all day” “is healthy and lets us be healthy” “helps us do good writing” “loves children” “studies hard” “gives lots of homework”!!!!! I was so shocked but so impressed, as this was just our 4th quarter prompt, and included no prompting or tips from me… promise ; )
I hope you are as pleasantly surprised as I was, all I know is that when I was growing up NO child would have chosen healthy, or studies hard as a quality for their dream teacher! You should be very proud to be raising such conscientious learners who care about their learning and well-being. Look for the writing coming home sometime soon, hopefully next week.
Make sure you congratulate your children on completing their first official year of state testing!!!! The kids were such troopers and really tried hard over the last few weeks. As the year winds down I suggest paying extra close attention to emails, the website and notes home, as we have A LOT going on and plans do sometimes change. If you have any questions or need clarification on anything please don’t hesitate to contact me.
I hope everyone is ready for a nice long break before we get back into the heart of our testing season! I sent home a packet today that is OPTIONAL practice for over break. It includes skills that should be both challenging and more independent for the kids. We will be testing the week right after break on the 26th and 27th. We will also be doing our biography presentations that week so make sure they got a lot of practice over break. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I will be out of town during break but will do my best to check email messages.
We had SO much fun yesterday riding our bikes around the course and learning bike safety at the same time. It was great to see the variety in skill levels that span our class. There was never a dull moment! I got to spend time riding the course with the kids, watching them ride, and even working with some friends still working on bike riding. Thank you so much for sending in bikes and helmets for ou
We started a program today called Rhymes and Times to help with our multiplication fact fluency. Every day for the next few weeks you will see a sheet with a rhyme, or song on it and a practice sheet come home. I would recommend having them complete the practice sheet the day it comes home while the rhyme is fresh in their head. However, this sheet is in addition to any other paper homework that I have for them to do, so please use it in a way that works for you and your family. I have suggested to the kids that they save these song sheets in a folder or binder at home so they can look back at them to remember the facts as well.
Multiplication.com is one of my favorite online sites for fact practice, check it out!
Thank you for letting me share in your child’s life!
I hope everyone has been having a great Fall so far! Everything is just moving right along here at school. It was so nice to meet with all of you last week at conferences and chat about your children! We are starting to enter the third grade traditions starting cursive this week, and multiplication and division in the next week or so. I try to keep school and learning a stress free area of life for the kids so please try to calm any nerves that may arise as we move into new territory. Halloween parties and parade will be next Wednesday starting at 2:40. You are welcome to come and enjoy the parade from the gym. With that said, I will be leaving town next Wednesday and will be gone about one week. I will not be reachable by e-mail or phone, so if an emergency arises that can not wait please contact Mrs. Dawson. Otherwise I will get back to you as soon as possible. Happy Halloween!
I just wanted to take the opportunity to give a few reminders on what we have coming up next week. Thursday is our first field trip to the CSU Agriculture Adventure Day, as well as our 2nd annual fund run. Don't forget to send in your fund run envelopes and a sack lunch for Thursday. Third Graders are also allowed to wear a hat for both our field trip and the Fund Run. We will have our first PRIDE assembly of the year on Friday the 28th, along with our yearly vision/hearing screening. When your child is selected for a PRIDE award I will contact you to let you know of the occasion : ) Student Council starts Monday as well and running club will be meeting for our second time this year! I am so thrilled to be a part of so many fun learning opportunities!!!!
